Picking Exterior Color
There are a few important things to consider when thinking about color for your home’s exterior. Before you ever decide what color you want, you should first think about the shade or the tone of the color you have in mind. You can go light, dark, or somewhere in between – and while the decision is up to you, we usually suggest lighter shades for a home’s exterior. This is because lighter shades will fade less under the intense rays of the sun and tend to last longer than darker shades.
It’s also important to consider the color of your roof. After all, choosing a color that clashes with your shingles isn’t something you want to be surprised about when the paint job is done. Make sure to match the undertones of your roof if it’s not a neutral color such as a black or gray.
Finally, think about the light. Sunlight will have a drastic impact on your exterior color, often bringing out the cooler, bluish tones of any color. That’s why it’s not a bad idea to go two to three times warmer with your exterior color than you would when choosing a shade for your interior.
